Econistas: Cruelty Free & Cute (don’t @ me) series highlights cruelty-free makeup or cosmetic brands across different cultures and ethnicities. We list cruelty-free brands irrespective of parent companies. If a brand is owned by a company that isn’t cruelty-free, you’ll find an ** beside the brand and the parent company will be noted.
Makeup brands within the beauty community are starting to make a shift and commitment to being vegan and cruelty-free. The cosmetics industry was once notorious for giving bold and beautiful looks, but using toxic ingredients in their products, as well as testing on animals. A lot of name-brand companies have vowed, not to sell their products in China – which still allows post-market animal testing. This means that while they’ve changed the law to not require animal testing to be done to sell products in mainland China, they still allow testing to be done after it’s already on the market.
Now, brands are changing their formulas, sourcing techniques, and technology in order to create “clean beauty” products.
We’ve compiled a list of some of the best vegan and cruelty-free brands that are not only good for you and for the environment, but they also give you a rich color payoff. Some of the products listed below are vegan, but not cruelty-free and vice versa. So we made it easier and let you know which are which.
